Oregon State University Sustainable Energy Initiative
I completely overhauled the SEI website from the ground up. I used Wordpress as a CMS and blogging platform, and using documents from OSU's new web branding guidelines, created a custom design that fits with OSU's online identity and is unique to our club. In addition to designing the theme, I also wrote my first Wordpress plugin from scratch in order to tie Wordpress's authentication mechanisms to our centralized login services to enable secure login for any members with a College of Engineering account without having to create a new, separate account in Wordpress. -
Wasabi Kraken Dragonboat Team
One of my favorite activities is dragonboating. In the fall of 2009, I did most of the work developing a website for my dragonboats team. Based on the Silverstripe CMS, it has team resources as well as publicity information. I designed an entire custom silverstripe theme for the site. -
Birgit Nielsen - Writer/Translator
I created this site for an independent writer and translator who works with English and German. I wrote the theme's html and css by hand, creating the custom design with input from the client. I also created a random quotes generator for the site, which loads quotes from a JSON file, then rotates through them randonly when the page is refreshed or the quote is double-clicked. The site runs a basic SilverStripe installation with some custom code. -
Cleveland High School Physics Dept
My friend Jacob and I developed this site from the ground up in about 3 days for our school's physics teachers. The site uses a MySQL database and file server to display assignments and links for the school's physics classes, and has an interface for teachers to log in and upload documents. You cannot view this site from outside the PPS network without authentication. -
MixZon, Inc. Intranet (not externally accessible)
During my ASE internship, one of my side-projects was redesigning the company's intranet site. I wrote the code for this site from scratch as well. Because the site is a private corporate intranet, I cannot share it with the outside world, but you'll just have to take my word that it's pretty snazzy looking. -
Atkinson Outdoor Learning Gardens
This was the first public website I made. The site has gone through a few redesigns, going from visual editor generated pages to static self-written HTML code to a full-fledged custom PHP/MySQL setup. I designed all of the CSS styling for this site myself, although it hasn't been updated in a few years. Recently management of the website was transfered to new hands, and my design is no longer being used on the site. -
Rio Lagartos EcoTours
I am in the process of developing a site for an ecotour business in Rio Lagartos, Mexico. This project is uniquely challenging and fun to work with because there must be a Spanish and an English version of the site. Fortunately, I am fluent in English, Spanish and computer, so I am creating a site which can be viewed in either language. Right now I'm waiting to receive the text and image content; the site will go live shortly after I receive those materials.
